RNCM SAXOPHONE ORCHESTRA

The Saxophone department at the RNCM is renowned across the globe as one of the leading centres for high level, open-minded and innovative saxophone study, attracting students from the length and breadth of the UK, as well as overseas students from Australia, South Africa, Russia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Japan, and Norway.

Directed by internationally renowned saxophone soloist and chamber musician Rob Buckland, alongside fellow tutors Carl Raven, Andy Scott, Mike Hall and Tim Garland, the saxophone programme provides students with individual lessons, a wide variety of classes, from classical solo performance to jazz improvisation, saxophone quartets and masterclasses from visiting international soloists and ensembles.

The RNCM Saxophone Orchestra brings together the full cohort to perform music both written and arranged for the full family of saxophones from Sopranino to Bass. This group are the only UK conservatoire saxophone ensemble to have performed at the last two World Saxophone Congresses, recorded a CD of new music specially commissioned from RNCM composers, and was recently invited to give a special performance in Paris, alongside regular concerts in the UK at the RNCM and in the wider community, as the flagship ensemble of the RNCM Saxophone programme.

Graduates of the RNCM Saxophone department in recent years have gone on to achieve notable international competition successes as solo players, saxophone quartets, jazz and pop players, and of course as excellent teachers themselves.
