Baritone
Edward is a 22 year-old baritone, based in the North West of England, currently studying for his BMus (Hons) at The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). In 2013, Edward was awarded ‘Staffordshire Young Singer of the Year’ and has since pursued every opportunity to further his musical education. He is currently under the tutorship of the internationally acclaimed baritone, Quentin Hayes.
Edward’s passion for opera has lead him to perform in a number of innovative productions during his early career. Since beginning his studies at the RNCM, Edward’s operatic achievements include the role of Bobinet in La Vie Parisienne and Boy 2 in Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, as well as chorus roles in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte and Lehár’s The Merry Widow. As a member of The Dorset Opera Festival Chorus, he performed in their award-winning productions of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Verdi’s Un ballo in Maschera and in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, as well as the role of Sicario in Verdi’s Macbeth. In 2015, Edward also made his début at The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival as Grosvenor from Patience, a portrayal which earned him a nomination for ‘Best Character Actor’.
On the concert and oratorio platform, Edward’s ensemble experience most recently includes a performance of Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder at the Grieghallen, Norway. Under the baton of Edward Gardner, The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus produced an exciting, musical spectacle worthy of a 5 star Guardian review. At Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, Edward has also performed in the UK premiere of Penderecki’s Seventh Symphony and Tippett’s A Child of Our Time with the RNCM Symphony Chorus.
As a baritone soloist, Edward has performed at venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall and The Sage, Gateshead. Recent concerts as guest soloist, include Faure’s Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, Handel’s Messiah, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and a staged performance of his Songs of Travel with the RNCM Chamber Orchestra.
Edward’s upcoming engagements include the role of Valens in RNCM’s staged performance of Handel’s Theodora, Spring 2017 and the role of Antonio in Clonter Opera’s production of Le nozze di Figaro, July 2017.
